Description

Strategies to Help Young Adults Manage the Positive & Negative Forces in Their Lives

According to a study on student persistence conducted by the National Center for the Study of Adult Learning and Literacy (NCSALL), a key factor that helps students stay in programs is their ability to manage the positive and negative forces in their lives. In this workshop, participants will focus on exploring strategies to raise students’ awareness and ability to manage the forces that help or hinder their persistence. Using Kurt Lewin’s force-field analysis, participants will analyze and identify supports as well as barriers that influence their decision to persevere in pursuing their goals. Based on this analysis, they will make plans to strategically manage those forces to ensure successful attainment of their goals. The session will end with reflections and creation of action plans to integrate these strategies into their respective practices.
